Choosing a barre teacher training is about more than earning a certificate.
The qualification matters, of course. But knowing the exercises and knowing how to teach them are not the same thing. Feeling ready to stand at the front of a studio means knowing how to welcome people into the room, work with different bodies, cue clearly and create classes people want to return to.
That is what the Barre Series Academy was built for.
Our 100-hour Foundations Barre Teacher Training brings together movement science, hands-on teaching practice and the Barre Series methodology. Where many barre trainings are completed in a single weekend, ours begins with a three-day intensive in London and continues over six months of study, practice and assessment—so you graduate ready to teach, not just certified on paper.
Whether you want to start a new career in movement, add barre to the work you already do or simply understand your own practice more deeply, the Academy is designed to shape your teaching well beyond the training itself.

The Academy was created by Barre Series founder Catie Miller, a certified barre and STOTT Pilates expert with more than 14 years in the international fitness and wellness industry.
Her approach comes from years of building classes and programmes, adapting movement for a wide range of needs, educating teachers and growing Barre Series into an international community.
Throughout the training, Catie shares the practical thinking behind the Barre Series experience: how to structure a balanced class, cue with purpose, offer useful modifications and create an environment where clients feel supported, challenged and welcome.
“Having the opportunity for in-person training and access to Catie’s depth of knowledge was truly invaluable. She is incredibly generous in sharing her experience, practical advice and even her carefully curated playlists.”
— Tamara, Academy graduate
A strong teacher knows both what comes next and why it belongs there.
The Barre Series methodology brings together traditional and contemporary barre, Pilates principles, careful technique and a mindful approach to movement. The training does not ask you to memorise choreography without context. It helps you understand the purpose of each exercise and how it contributes to the class as a whole.

Barre Foundations — a six-part exploration of the method: warm-up, upper body, front and back barre, core integration and stretching
Pilates-informed principles — breathwork, pelvic-floor engagement, alignment and control
Anatomy, longevity and injury awareness — common movement patterns and strategies for strength, safety and longevity
Teaching every level and life stage — progressing advanced clients and adapting for injury, prenatal and postnatal needs
Cueing and communication — responding to different learning styles and developing an authentic teaching voice
Programming and class structure — designing well-paced classes with clear progressions and options
With this understanding, you can make considered decisions rather than relying on a set sequence: explain which muscles clients are working, recognise when someone needs another option and, over time, trust your own judgement.
“I was particularly drawn to the pre- and postnatal modifications, which are an extremely valuable skill I will now be able to apply in my own classes.”
— Tamara, Academy graduate

Understanding the theory and feeling ready to teach are two different things. Confidence comes from preparation, repetition, feedback and the experience of teaching real people—which is why practical application sits at the centre of the programme.
30 hours — logged self-practice
24 hours — live workshop in London. Three days × eight hours, 9am–5pm
24 hours — theory completed online and through self-study
24 hours — logged teaching practice. Working with real clients
You have up to six months from the start of the course to complete all components, including theory and practical assessments, though many trainees finish sooner.
During this time, you will work on class preparation, demonstrations, verbal cueing, client touchpoints and responding to common questions. You will practise communicating clearly without losing the warmth, pace and energy of the class.
There is no expectation that every graduate should sound or teach the same way. The training gives you a reliable foundation while leaving room for your own personality and style to develop.
“You will leave equipped with the skills and motivation to deliver high-quality, safe, energetic classes to your clients.”
— Alicia, Academy graduate

Every client brings a different body, background and level of confidence to the room. A good teacher retains the purpose of an exercise while making it more accessible or more challenging when needed.
During the training, you will look at safe adjustments, useful modifications and the language used to guide a class. You will learn how to offer options naturally, without singling anyone out, and how to challenge clients while maintaining the support they need to feel successful.
Balancing precision with intuition, and challenge with encouragement, is often what separates a class that is technically correct from one people truly connect with.
You will learn alongside people who share an interest in movement.
Some trainees arrive as dedicated Barre Series clients; others already work in Pilates, yoga, personal training, dance, group fitness, education or wellness. There are no formal prerequisites and no single background you need to fit—only a willingness to learn, practise and support the people around you.
Your cohort gives you people to practise with, exchange ideas with and lean on as you begin teaching. Beyond it, you become part of the wider Barre Series community, built around thoughtful movement and continued development.
“A true leader with the best energy, equipping others to take that out into the world. Love, love, love being a part of Barre Series.”
— Leanne, Academy graduate
There is no single route after qualifying.
Some graduates teach in boutique studios and wellness spaces. Others teach privately, introduce barre to an existing community or broaden the services they already offer. Some complete the Academy primarily to deepen their own relationship with movement.
On completion, you will be certified in the Barre Series method and eligible to apply for professional teaching insurance. The course is not only REPs-endorsed, its Level 2 REPs Endorsed for 100-Hour Training, providing independent UK-based quality assurance and a recognised professional benchmark.
You may also leave with a clearer sense of the teacher you would like to become. The Academy gives you a strong place to begin—and lets you decide what success looks like for you.
